OUR AIM

The aim of our service at Collins Avenue Physiotherapy is to carefully consider the cause/causes of your symptoms through listening to your story and completing an assessment of your physical presentation. Together we can then prepare a plan aimed at reducing discomfort and restoring activity levels in the short term. Long term goals are aimed at reducing the risk of recurrence.
This plan may include educating you about your condition and about some of the best ways to manage your symptoms. Where indicated, we can use many pain relieving treatment techniques to help accelerate recovery. All treatment plans will most likely include a progressive home exercise programme. We can record you performing these exercises here in our clinic if you bring a suitable device- this can be a helpful reminder of best technique when you are working on your programme at home.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

In your first appointment we will ask you a series of questions about how the problem first started, where you feel your symptoms, and what aggravates or alleviates these symptoms. The more you know about your problem, the easier it will be for us to help you. Then we will examine the area/s involved so that we can fully diagnose the root cause of the problem. We will then be able to discuss treatment options, treatment techniques, expected length of recovery, and what you can do at home to help manage the problem yourself.

  • spinal diagnoses such as disc injury, spondylolisthesis, spondylosis or other MRI findings
  • spinal pain acute and chronic
  • tissue overload problems such as tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis/ fasciopathy or muscle injury
  • chronic and acute pain conditions with or without sensitised pain systems.

CLINICAL PILATES CLASSES & RESISTANCE STRENGTHENING CLASSES

We run a busy weekly schedule of morning and evening Clinical Pilates and Progressive Functional Training Classes. These classes are aimed at people who have progressed from the early stages of a musculoskeletal injury and are now ready to build on strength and flexibility. Restoring normal movement patterns can be a key element to returning to full activity and reducing the risk of recurrence. All classes are restricted to small groups who share similar goals and are led by one of our Chartered Physiotherapists. If you think these classes may be beneficial for you, please contact us to further discuss suitability.
